I made it to the end! This final book was good, though it left me with mixed feelings. I liked the finale, but there are so many loose ends. It's clear that reading the other Malazan books is necessary, but I'm not going to read those now since reading this felt like crossing a mountain: exhausting but rewarding.
I wasn't fully satisfied with how several ancient races suddenly became central to the finale. The Forkrul Assail showing up as the big boss felt out of nowhere. Same issue with the K'Chain Nah'ruk and Tiste Liosan appearing in similar fashion. And why are the K'Chain Che'Malle suddenly joining the battle? And how is Karsa coordinating with all of these people and races? I know there are gods involved, but still.
